Rehabilitation
Dr. Bruns utilizes the Golden Mean System, an innovative rehabilitation technology.
It has long been recognized that a certain compelling rhythm permeates the Universe, and that certain proportions in nature are pleasing to the eye. Man has copied the shapes of nature to produce a Golden Rectangle, Golden Spiral, and Golden pantogram all based on the proportion of 62% to 38%. All of these shapes are the basis for all things in the Universe and have been named the Golden Mean.
Rehabilitation exercises are performed on the Golden Mean exercise system by moving at a specific tempo with a controlled work-to-rest ratio based on the Golden Mean. This allows a safe, pleasant, fast way of developing and balancing muscular strength. All exercises are performed in positions which provide proper counter-forces to help develop the body proportionally according to anatomical strength curves.
The unique two-directional design of the resistance arms makes it possible to adjust a specific range of motion for each joint to fit each individual. This controlled range of motion prevents muscle injury due to overstretching and allows flexibility to be increased in a controlled manner.
There are several exercises that can be done in the upright body position to minimize the large trunk weight. This is necessary to keep force levels very low for acute back patients.
From three table positions, 25 exercises for rehabilitation of all major joints are possible. The flat table position allows eight exercises to be done for shoulder girdle rehabilitation.
It requires no additional attachments and can be changed to a different table position in a matter of seconds. It is also instantly adjustable to allow the machine to be tailored for all body sizes.
This same system is designed for static testing of all major joints. By locking the resistance arm, maximum static forces of contraction can be measured, graphed and stored in the computer.
Because each resistance arm has a force transducer, tests are done statically, separately (but simultaneously), and symmetrically for each extremity to enhance test validity.
Right to left side imbalances as well as segment weaknesses relative to other parts of the body are computed. It is also important to note that because of the two separate measuring arms, a force difference due to patient trunk rotation during trunk extension and trunk flexion will be indicated.
